The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced Equatorial Guinea as host for the 2015 African Nations Cup following Morocco’s withdrawal. The new host was announced on Friday.

Morocco had appealed to CAF to postpone the tournament over fears the the deadly Ebola virus could spread o the country with the expected influx of players and supporters from all over Africa, and particularly West Africa where the virus has killed almost 5000 people.

But CAF refused, insisting that the tournament must go on as planned between January 17 and Febraury 8, 2015. Thy football body subsequently on Tuesday stripped the north African country of the hosting rights and banned it from taking part in the competition.

Equatorial Guinea is an oil-rich Spanish speaking country, one of the smallest countries in Africa. It has only two major stadiums in the capital Malabo and Bata.

In CAF's statement, it was however disclosed that the host cities would be Malabo, Bata, Mongomo and Ebebiyin.

"The final tournament draw takes place on Wednesday December 3, 2014" the statement added.

Equatorial Guinea were disqualified from the preliminaries for cheating so it is not clear if they will be allowed to play in the tournament since a space has been created with Morocco’s ban
