A close associate of the Chadian president, Idriss Déby, has been arrested in connection with the sponsorship of the Islamic terrorist sect, Boko Haram.

The suspect, Mahamat Gnoti, was reportedly caught on the Chadian-Sudan border with 19 SAM2 missiles, which he allegedly purchased from the Sudanese army. The ammunition was reported to be for Boko Haram.

A Cameroonian investigative journalist, Bisong Etahoben, was quoted by Saharareporters as saying via his Twitter handle that Mr Gnoti claimed that President Idriss Déby gave him “the funds to purchase the weapons, waved a presidential pass issued to him by Mr Deby’s office in order to get past border guards, but was stopped and searched by the guards who found the deadly weapons on him.”

According to Etahoben, Mr Gnoti was arrested on November 17.

Mr Gnoti’s claims then led Saharareporters in the exclusive report, to recall the failed negotiation attempt to release the Chibok girls which was led by the Chadian president. It is believed that the Chadian president could just have swindled the Nigerian government “out of millions of dollars…”

President Goodluck Jonathan had on September 8, in company of former Governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sherrif,  paid a visit to N’djamena to meet with Idris Derby, to discuss stopping Boko Haram as well as the release of the over 200 Chibok girls .

Daily Post reported Sunday morning that a top Nigerian military source disclosed that an investigation has been launched into the allegation.

The online newspaper however quoted him as adding:“But do not expect the finding to be made public as the matter bothers on national security which are usually classified”
