Nigeria’s Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke has been elected President of the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).


She was elected on Wednesday at the organisation’s ongoing 166th Ordinary meeting.


By her election, she becomes OPEC’s first female president since it was created 54 years ago.

She replaces Libya’s Vice Prime Minister for Corporations, Abdourhman Atahar Al-Ahirish, who was occupying the position.
