AFCON 2015 seeded teams: After beating Nigeria, Bafana face tough draw

Bafana Bafana of South Africa’s impressive run in the AFCON qualifying series were they topped Group A and went unbeaten through six matches, have not earn them a favourable seeding ahead of the December 3 draws scheduled to be held in Malabo, Euatorial Guinea.

Their absence in the last three tournaments was responsible because the seeding ws based on points earned as follows: Winners of the AFCON, 7 Points; Runners Up, 5 Points; Semi Finalists, 3 Points; Quarter Finalists, 2 Points and Group Stage 1 Point.

Hosts Equatorial Guinea, 2013 runners-up Burkina Faso, 2012 champions Zambia and perennial contenders Ghana are the four top seeded teams making up Pot 1.

As it stands, South Africa could conceivably end up in a ‘group of death’ alongside West African giants Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and Senegal.
