The Air Force and Navy would also be involved in the conduct of the 2015 elections says the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Their services, would be in addition to that of the Police, Army, Civil defence, DSS and all other security agencies.
Addressing Batch B corps members at NYSC Orientation Camp in Jalingo on Sunday, Mr Austin Okojie, INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Taraba, explained that the decision was necessary given the level of insecurity in the country.
His words: “The commission is making arrangements with the Nigerian Air Force, Navy and other security agents to ensure safety of lives and property during the 2015 general elections.
“We expect Nigerians to understand that the engagement of security agents to maintain law and order is to enable us to conduct free, fair and acceptable elections”.
Okojie then advised the corps members who would be involved in the conduct of the elections to be patriotic.
