Embattled speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Adewale Omirin, has been impeached.
According to SaharaReporters, the impeachment was carried out by seven lawmakers who were reportedly escorted into the state assembly complex by Mobile Police Commander, Selenkere Michael.
It was also reported that the police, earlier in the day, prevented 19 others including the speaker from entering the complex. One Olugbemi, was purportedly “elected” by the seven-man house as speaker.
It was also gathered that the lawmakers also approved the commissioner nominees of Governor Ayodele Fayose and also approved the list of caretaker committees for the local government areas.
Omirin has been in a running battle with the Governor Fayose during which the governor ordered the shutting down his petrol station in Ado Ekiti on the grounds that the location flouted environmental laws.
The move was however viewed as a political move against Omirin who refused to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
