When police got to the scene and found the cannibal, 34-year-old Matthew Williams, eating the woman, they fired a 50,000-volt Taser at him. He later became unresponsive and died.

Williams, it was learnt, had just been released from prison after serving half of a five year sentence for attacking his partner, and was staying at the hostel on bail.

Daily Mirror quotes Jill Edwards, who lives near the scene, as saying:"This animal was eating this girl to death. He murdered her so police stopped him - good on them.

"Security said they told him no girls in his room and he didn't answer, when they opened his door he was eating her face".

It is believed that Williams invited the girl to the hostel for a drink before attacking her.

The Sirhowy Arms Hotel, where the incident occured, has been used as a homeless hostel in recent years.
