On Tuesday, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, with 70 Champions League goals already looked good to equal or break the legendary Gonzalez Raul's all-time Champions League goal scoring record of 71, but he didn’t score in their game against Liverpool.

So, attention shifted to Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, who had 69 goals. Messi then netted two goals against Ajax on Wednesday to bring his goals tally to 71, beating Ronaldo to the record.

Messi scored his first goal with a header, before adding another in the second half as Barcelona won 2-0 in Group F on Wednesday evening.
