Deputy Superintendent of Police commits suicide in Kaduna

A Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) in the Kaduna State Police command, Nambol Audu, has killed himself, police authorities in the state say.

Audu, who was a Chief Armourer for the Command, had earlier been arrested on Monday for allegedly stealing firearms and attempted selling them to criminals. Reports said he shot himself in the chest while in detention at about 5.am on Friday.

It was however unclear how he got the gun with which he shot himself while in police custody.

Audu and two others were on Monday arrested after they allegedly drove into the police armoury at night and loaded weapons into a private vehicle.

According to the police commissioner who spoke to journalists during the week, the bubble burst for Audu and his accomplices when the security men on guard became suspicious and prevented the vehicle from leaving the premises. He said Audu could not explain his action.
