President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa, unveiled the new N100 notes commemorating Nigeria’s one hundred years of existence.
Jonathan was joined at the unveiling ceremony by Vice President Namadi Sambo and the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Governor, Godwin Emefiele, during the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting.
Emefiele said the new note was produced with some of the most advanced security features in the world, adding that the design platforms on which the note was made included security, durability, attractiveness, cultural heritage and transformation.
Jonathan, commending the CBN for coming up with the commemorative note, recalled that commemorative N50 notes were also introduced to mark the nation’s 50th independence anniversary.
There is a Quick Response Code (QRC) on the back of the note which if scanned with smart phones, leads users to a website where the country’s history could be accessed.
Morocco, Russia and Costa Rica were listed as some countries who have also issued currencies to commemorate landmark events.
