What do you expect to spill out of the belly of a giant tiger shark? Well, plenty of fish belly stuff…but for Christ sakes! Not a human head and leg! Ugrrh!!!

That was exactly what a group of fishermen in Philippines recently encountered. They had caught the man-eating shark in the waters off the Camiguin Islands. After cutting its belly open to divide the spoils, they were shocked to see the partially digested head and leg of a human being.

Shaken and disgusted, the men threw both the shark and the remains back into the water but kept it’s the jaws and fins as a trophy for their catch.

One of the fishermen, Bodoy Gorgod, told Minda News: "It was so disgusting. We can't bear the awful smell.

"I began fishing when I was 20-years-old and I have never found human remains inside a shark before."

The shark was caught near the site that an MV Maharlika ferry sunk during a tropical storm in September near Leyte, central Philippines. It is now believed that the remains may have been from one of the victims. There were 84 passengers on board the ill-fated boat when it. Two men remain unaccounted for.

Now, even as the men plan to dry out the jaw and fins as a momento of their catch, Perly Santillana, the wife of one of the fishermen, has warned her husband not to bring “that trophy” near their home.

She was quoted as saying: “I don’t want the sight of that jaw, knowing that the shark had eaten a human being. Who knows the victim’s spirit might visit us”

Experts who examined the beast’s jaw and fins estimated that it could be around 12 and a half foot long (3.81m) and about 590kg in weight.
