No fewer than 40 United States soldiers landed in Nigeria yesterday according to a New Telegraph report. Their mission is to assist the country to fight the Boko Haram sect, which has recently captured more local government areas in Yobe, Adamawa and Borno States.

The report quoted informed sources at the Army Headquarters in Abuja as saying that the troops were sighted at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), spotting combat gear.

It was also learnt that arrangements have been concluded to bring in Egyptian pilots to reinforce the aerial bombardment of captured territories, especially Mubi and Gwoza which the terrorists have renamed Madinatul Islam and Darul Hikma respectively.

One of the sources was quoted as saying: “I can confirm to you that about 40 US military personnel, all in combat gear, have arrived in the country. In fact, they arrived at the DHQ today (yesterday), and I’m sure they met with the military high command, for briefing and other necessary operational issues".

It would be recalled that US had offered assistance to Nigeria in defeating Boko Haram shortly after the April kidnap of over 200 schools girls from Chibok, Borno state.
