Nigeria’s First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, may lead the Super Falcons to the 2015 FIFA Women World Cup in Canada, if she accepts the invitation of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to do so.
Chairman of the Nigeria Women Football League, Chief (Mrs) Dilichukwu Onyedinma told journalists in Abuja over the weekend that the invitation to the First Lady was to appreciate her efforts at emancipating and promoting women in the country.
The Super Falcons recently conquered Africa at the African Women Championship in Namibia last month and automatically qualifies for the World Cup tournament in Canada next year. Cameroun and Ivory Coast who came 2nd and 3rd respectively, will also be at the world cup.
Onyedinma, who also a member of the board of the NFF, said that her board has concluded the incorporation of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) and entered into a partnership with the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) for female league matches to be aired live as from next season.
So, it is believed that if the First Lady accepts the invitation, she would have extended her influence to Nigerian football apart from her purported influence in the politics of Rivers, Abia, Akwa Ibom and recently, Oyo States. We recall that she has also intervened in the attempt to #BringBackOurGirls from “Sambisa” to “Chibok”
According to Onyedinma, the Super Falcons would need the First Lady’s patience and good luck at the tournament.
Now you see why it is good to have a President named “Goodluck” and a First Lady named “Patience”.
