Local hunters have reportedly recaptured Maiha town in Adamawa State from Boko Haram, killing at least 75 of the insurgents

Maiha, a town in Maiha Local Government Area of the state, was on Monday captured by Boko Haram after a fierce battle with soldiers.

Premium Times quotes sources as saying that local hunters ambushed the insurgents and killed them in their dozens.

Bello Ya’u, a resident was quoted by the online medium as saying: “The hunters mobilized and gave the insurgents hot chase during which many Boko Haram sect members are killed. We commend them for the gallant fight.”

Baba Dauda, a local hunter said: “We had to wake up and fight the bastards that keep plaguing our societies killing innocents souls.

“People should brace up and start fighting them, we killed many of them. We are not afraid of being killed"

The hunters were said to have used dane guns, sticks, bows and arrows to confront the insurgents.
The hunters’ heroic feat has however instilled more fear into some residents who, afraid of reprisal attacks, are fleeing the town and moving to Yola, the state capital.

According to the state co-ordinator of Civilian Joint Task Force, Bako  Goni,  over 2,000 people, including youth vigilantes, local hunters, retired military, police and para-military operatives, artisans and petty traders have signed up to confront Boko Haram insurgents in the  state.

The terrorists are still in control of many towns and villages in Adamawa State, including Madagali, Michika, Mubi North and Mubi South.
