A Nigerian military helicopter on a surveillance mission in Adamawa state has reportedly crashed. The aircraft came down in Damare, a suburb of Girei Local Government Area of the state.
An eye witness to the crash, Jamilu Inuwa, was reported by Premium Times to have observed “the helicopter crashed in Damare but I can’t tell if it is a military plane or not.”
But the online newspaper cites a source as saying that the helicopter, which was conveying arms and ammunition was actually on surveillance mission. He added that he learnt that there were some foreigners aboard.
It was also gathered that immediately after the crash; soldiers were drafted to the scene to cordon off the area.
The Defense Headquarters confirmed the crash of the chopper with call sign Shark 23. According to a statement issued, the copter was
on a training mission. It had executed a controlled forced landing four minutes
after take-off at the runway approach end of Yola International Airport.
It said no casualty was recorded as the crew members were extracted safely back to base.
