President Goodluck Jonathan has landed in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, for peace talks that would bring peace to the country in political crisis where the military has taken over.
Jonathan is a member of the ECOWAS delegation to the country. Others include President Macky Sall of Senegal and President John Mahama of Ghana who is the current Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
The delegates will meet with Burkina Faso’s interim Head of State, Lt.-Col. Isaac Zida, opposition leaders, members of civil society and other political stakeholders in the country.
The political turmoil in Burkina Faso led to the resignation of former President Blaise Compaore and the assumption of power by Lt.-Col. Zida.
The African Union whose democratic charter requires its 54 member-states to act against the forceful overthrow of elected governments on the continent, has given the military in Burkina Faso a two weeks ultimatum to transfer power back to a civilian administration or face sanctions.
So, in light of Nigeria’s current situation with Boko Haram terrorists that have taken away Nigeria’s peace, what do you think of President Jonathan’s quest to bring create peace in Burkina Faso.
