Former Liverpool and Manchester City goalkeeper, David James declared bankruptcy in May this year. And this week, it emerged that things have gotten so bad for him that he is now auctioning off his memorabilia to raise funds.
Some of his possessions put on sale include: signed England jerseys; jerseys he has swapped with opposing players; a jersey from the 2002 World Cup against Argentina he played in; a collection of books; a jubilee mug with the Queen’s face on it; a chainsaw and a Vauxhall Astra van.
These items are being sold off by the firesale company online, hilcoind.com and bids are being accepted between November 6 and 18.
James, 44, who is currently playing in the India Super League for Kerala Blasters, reportedly earned an estimated £20m during a 25-year playing career in England. But he has now fallen on hard times following a bitter and costly divorce in 2005 as well as tax issues.
James also had stints with Aston Villa, West Ham, Portsmouth, Bristol City and Bournemouth, was declared bankrupt in May.
His fall from grace to grass is quite remarkable because apat from controlling a massive salary as a player, he had a lucrative modeling deal with Armani
