Gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram attacked Damboa village in
Borno State Friday morning.
Several people are feared killed as gunmen suspected to be
members of the Boko Haram attacked Damboa in Borno State on Friday morning. It
was reportd that the gunmen threw explosives into residential homes and shot
people who tried to surrender. Women and children were also reported to have
fled into the bush for safety
Soldiers had reportedly deserted the village after they were
attacked two weeks ago.
According to a vigilante official, Abbas Gava, who spoke to
PREMIUM TIMES, only few youths from their Civilian-JTF tried holding off the
attackers. The Vigilante group had been the one protecting the people since the
soldiers left.
His words: "Since the attack, Damboa has no police or
soldiers," Mr. Gava said. "It is only the vigilantes that are there
and we know their limitations."
He said the "casualty could be very high because my
contacts in Damboa said they are still picking and piling the corpses. But many
houses, nearly half of what remains of the several attacked town has been
burnt".
The extent of damage and casualty figures is yet to be
ascertained.
