President Francois Hollande
Senior Socialist Party officials in France have reportedly advised President François Hollande to clarify his relationship status by marrying his actress mistress, Julie Gayet.

President Hollande’s love life has been an issue since December last year when the president’s affair with the 43 year old actress became public, prompting Hollande to end his relationship with Valérie Trierweiler, a 49 year old journalist. Hollande still tries to keep his affair with Gayet out of public eye and it is reported that she keeps growing uncomfortable with the situation.

The Telegraph reports that party leaders are seemed concerned that if Mr Hollande continues trying to keep his complicated private life out of the public eye, rumours about his relationship with the actress could overshadow the Socialists' 2017 election campaign.

France’s Le Parisien newspaper has even quoted a party official as saying:"We've been hearing for the past three months that he's going to formalise his relationship with Julie Gayet. He has to clarify things and show that it isn't just a casual fling,"

Hollande, 59, has never been married, not even to Ségolene Royale, the mother of his four children. So, if he does marry Gayet on August 12, his birthday, it would be his first wedding.
Friends of the actress have repeatedly told reporters that she could no longer bear the constant media exposure on her and her two teenage sons. She was tired of hiding, they said.

However, Closer magazine, which first exposed the president's secret relationship with Gayet, reported last month that Hollande and Trierweiler’s relationship may not have finally ended afterall as Trierweiler was ready to forgive the president if he disengaged completely with the actress. The current silence, the paper says, may be to allow the December scandal to die down.
