The Abia State Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Ken Nwosu, who was shot last Wednesday, July 9, 2014 by gunmen, has died.
Nwosu was driving home at about 8pm when he was reportedly overtaken by a group of gunmen in a Toyota Camry around Umuajata/ Amakamma Road by Stella Inter-Communication, an outskirt of Umuahia. The men opened fire on him and fled the scene.
The State Commissioner for Information, Eze Chikamnayo, who made the announcement in Umuahia said Nwosu died on Monday night at the Abia State Specialist Hospital where he was being treated.
According to Chikamnayo, plans had been concluded to fly him abroad but doctors had insistd that he be stabilized before embarking on the trip.
He said the entire state had been thrown into mourning “because we have lost a colossus; the best hand in agriculture.”
He added that security agents had been directed to fish out the attackers.
The late commissioner, who hailed from Amizi in Olokoro community, Umuahia South Local Government Area, was appointed Commissioner in September 2013. He carried out rapid reforms in the state’s agricultural sector while in office.
