The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, has suspended its 10-month old strike. The union called off the strike on Saturday 12 July after its National Executive Council, (NEC) meeting in Abuja.

Shekarau had promised to ensure that the Federal Government kept all the agreements reached with the union.
Confirming the suspension of the strike, ASUP National Publicity Secretary , Clement Chirman, said that lecturers as well as students have since been directed to resume on Tuesday, July 15, 2014.
The ASUP NEC consists of all chapter (polytechnic) chairmen of the union and the national executives.
