Over 200 businesses operated by Nigerians Kumasi, Ghana have been reportedly shut down by the country’s authorities. The action is said to be as a result of their inability to meet the new business operation conditions laid down by the country for foreigners.

The business owners who spoke with Vanguard said the Ghanaian police descended on them in the early hours of Monday and locked up their shops

The Ghanaian authorities had reportedly fixed $300,000 (N48m) as capital requirement and employment of Ghanaians as a precondition for operating a business in the country.

The businessmen, calling on the Federal Government to come to their aid, said the conditions were unrealistic as their spare parts businesses were small scale businesses.

One of them, Mohammed Nasir , described the policy and the clampdown as an attempt to drive them out of the country.

Another businessman, Ikechukwu Umeh, who also spoke with Vanguard said related the clamp down with a condition which required them to supply goods to Ghanaian on credit and allow them a period of three months to pay up.

He however said that the Ghanaians have always defaulted sometimes owing for up to three years
