Military Coup in Lesotho…Prime minister flees; police disarmed

Lesotho prime minister, Thomas Thabane fled his country this morning following an alleged military coup. 
 Currently taking refuge in South Africa, he told BBC that his life was in danger.

 According to reports, the capital, Maseru, is now calm after soldiers seized buildings although the army denied staging a coup. 
 Thabane said the army had rendered the government “dysfunctional”, an action that amounted to a coup. 
 He said: “I have been removed from control not by the people but by the armed forces, and that is illegal. I came into South Africa this morning and I will return as soon as my life is not in danger. I will not go back to Lesotho to get killed.” 
 The army, it was learnt, acted after the prime minister attempted to remove its head, Lt Gen Kennedy Tlai Kamoli. 
 Reuters reports that the army held that General Kamoli was still in charge and that the military “supports the democratically elected government of the day”. 
 According to a BBC report, troops were earlier seen on the streets of Maseru and there were reports of gunfire.

 He also said “The commander said he was looking for me, the prime minister and the deputy prime minister to take us to the king. In our country, that means a coup” 
 Lesotho is a tiny kingdom in Southern Africa and has a population of about two million. It gained independence from South Africa in 1966.

 These guys are always well-dressed with flashy cars. Some of them are even from rich homes. You see them looking like a bag of money, meanwhile nothing in their bank accounts.

 1. Always with the fake accent: Apparently, this is not exclusive to the babes. The male FABBs use all the accents in the world; British, American and Nigerian accent all muddled up in one. If they are talking to a babe who probably lived in the UK with a British accent, their accent automatically changes just to impress. Please, embrace your Nigerian accent, whether it is an Igbo, Yoruba or Hausa accent, be proud of it. You don’t see an American man trying to talk like a Nigerian. 
 2. He only dates working girls: This is a highly defining character of the male FABB. They do not date jobless babes. If you don’t have a J -O -B, then it’s onto the next one. They do not want to be bothered about taking care of a babe who’s probably still in school or sharing CV about. That is not in their dictionary of potential girlfriends. 
 3. He drives the flashiest of flashy cars: Warning: Don’t be deceived, the car belongs to their father or uncle. 
 4. He always has a political connection: A typical Abuja boy is always related to some politician or influential person. The politicians are always their uncle but hardly ever their father. Sometimes, it could even be a politician they have met once- he becomes their uncle. 
 5. He is a mummy’s boy: Most of the rich male FABBs live off the wealth of their family who still pay for everything they own. If you know a guy who lives in a very expensive duplex in Maitama but does not have a regular job, check that guy! They probably even get monthly allowance from their parents every month as grown men. Hey, not judging, you do you. 
 6. He immediately introduces you to his family/friends: Imagine you meet this nice looking guy in Abuja, and before you know it, he has introduced you to his family and friends. In your mind, you are thinking that you are an iyawo (wife in the Yoruba language), not knowing you are girlfriend no. 9. 
 7. He spontaneously proposes to you after a short period of dating: They tell you that you are a wife material or even propose marriage so they can be living off their new working class babe. You would cook, clean and before you know it, you have turned to their provider. Their food, shelter, and clothing would be taken care of by the working class babe. They start with “Please, borrow me N10, 000, I would pay you back.” Next time, it’s N20, 000 and then it keeps increasing. Of course, the babe will never get her money back. If you are guilty of this, it’s not good o! It should be a joint effort. 
 8. He only remembers his babe on Thursdays: This is the time to remember all the hook-ups they have forgotten from Monday to Wednesday. They need to get a babe to turn up with during the weekend. If Halima doesn’t respond, Salewa will. After all there are many fishes in the sea. 
 9. He doesn’t have a proper job: This is not referring to the guys who genuinely work/hustle for their money from Monday to Friday to make ends meet. Thumbs up! This is for the guys who claim they work during the week but people still cannot point a finger on what they do. On Friday, they would be the first to update their status with: “Turn up weekend, TGIF”. 
 10. He’s always the first to pop bottles in the club: They are always the first to order bottles just to impress. When it’s time to pay, they would remember they have to go to the bathroom. It’s not by force to pop champagne. After popping and being forced to pay, they come home to eat noodles. Bear in mind that the money would have bought you a nice plate of jollof rice and a big fat chicken.

Woman burns 14 year-old girl’s genitals for bed wetting

Police in Abuja has detained a woman for allegedly forcing a 14-year old girl to sit on a hot stove as punishment for bed wetting. The incident occurred at Dutse Alhaji, in Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

NAN reports that the girl’s genitals were severely burnt in the process 
 Confirming the incident, FCT Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Altine Daniel, said that the girl, a sister-in-law of the accused, was receiving treatment at the Garki General Hospital, Abuja. 
 “The girl is now recuperating at the hospital and the police will ensure that her safety is not compromised,” she said.

Couple bury six year old girl alive

Police are currently on the trail of a couple in an Indian village called Sidhauli, who reportedly buried the six year old daughter of their neighbour alive.

According to Alok Awasthi, the girl’s uncle, who spoke to CNN, the couple told the child that her mother had asked them to take her to a fair in a nearby village. 
 
He said that as they headed away from their home village, they reached a sugar cane field where they tried to strangle her. 
 Awasthi said that a few villagers working in a nearby field saw the three grew suspicious when they saw only two people emerge from the sugar cane field even when they had seen three of them go in. 
 Wondering where the child was, they later found her unconscious and buried in a pit. She was later taken to a hospital where she regained consciousness. 
 
Awasthi said that while the girl doesn't remember being buried alive; she identified the neighbours as suspects when police showed her their photos. 
 A Police spokesperson said: "There is clearly an intention to kill the girl but as of now, we don't know why”

12 die as boat capsizes in Rivers

The death toll in a boat mishap that occurred in Rivers state on Friday, August 29, has so far claimed 12 lives, as two more persons were confirmed dead on Saturday by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

According to NEMA, 22 people were rescued and taken to hospital after the overloaded boat capsized on Friday as it travelled between Bonny Island and Port Harcourt. 
 
NEMA local coordinator Onimode Bandele said: “From our investigation, the capacity of the boat was 25 but it was carrying 34 people. 
 
We also learnt that on August 28, the same boat hit an object which affected its hull and we are not sure if it was repaired before being used again.

The President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in Lagos state, Chief Fabian Onwughalu, said this yesterday according to The Nation. 
 
Bemoaning the plight of the deceased and their relations, Chief Onwughalu said: “As I am talking to you now, there are over 1000 dead bodies of Igbo people waiting at various morgues only here in Lagos State for movement to their homeland. 
 
”The ugly development has serious effect on the families of the deceased because in Igbo land, we believe that the moment a late family member is buried, the pains of losing him will gradually fade away. But in a situation where you keep the body of a deceased family member unnecessarily, the pains will be increasing. 
 
“The Federal Government should rescind the decision or decentralise the authority.” 
He advised that “the Federal Government should authorise other government health officers and doctors to issue certificates to bereaved families to enable them carry the remains of their deceased ones home for burial. 
 
“If the authority to issue certificate is decentralised such that federal health centres and teaching hospitals would be able to attend to bereaved families and give them certificates within a short time, it will enable our people to convey the remains of their beloved ones to their ancestral homes in line with the traditions of their people.”

Recently, 50 Cent who had not been happy with Mayweather took advantage of the boxer’s embarrassing inability to read a few printed words for an advertisement in which he was to be featured in. 
 
50 mocked him by offering to donate $75,000 to charity if Mayweather is able to read a long passage from a Harry Potter book in public. 
 
Now, Mayweather’s father is angry that 50 Cent is making the world laugh at his son's expense. 
 
During an interview with Brian Shapiro from "The Vegas Take" on Fox Sports 670 Las Vegas, he said: “50 Cent seems like he's got a problem since Floyd left him. He's a world known singer and he's acting like a kid."

 In a recent interview with Sunday Express she said she had to survive when her husband abandoned her and their two kids some years ago in the United States. 
 Her words: “It was just an idea that popped up in my mind. It wasn’t in any way to get back at my estranged husband then. I’d been separated from my husband since 2007, but the p*rn movie thing came up just around last year. I can say that money was the primary reason because at a time after my husband left me in the US, I couldn’t pay my house rent. So I went into it both because of the money and the fun. 
 Afrocandy also said that she gets paid as much as N200, 000 to appear in clubs. “I must confess, I get paid as much as N200, 000 to appear in clubs”. According to her, some of the clubs are exclusive and strictly for “big” politicians.

“Power Supply to be stable by October" - Minister...Time to agree with "Omosexy"?

By October this year, power supply would be stable in Nigeria. That is a promise that came yesterday from the Minister of Power, Chinedu Nebo, who briefed journalists after a closed-door power meeting, chaired by Vice President Namadi Sambo at the State House, Abuja.

 This is however not the first time such a promise would be made but it is the first in the new power dispensation under the current privatization arrangement. 
 
According to Nebo, power supply had improved in the country in the past one week due to improved gas supply. Nigerians in certain quarters have also rejoiced over the said improvement, one of them is Nollywood actress, Omotola Jolade-Ekeinde.

“So that part of the shortfalls we’ve had in production up to this time, we hope that by the beginning of October, we will see a much better stabilisation of the entire power delivery system in the country. 
“First, I would say we rejoice that for the first time in a long time we have been averaging over 4,500 MW when we include nearly 300 mw of spilling reserve which is always put there to make sure that the reliability and stability of the grid is ensured at all time. 
 
“So, we are really moving forward; it may not be as rapidly as Nigerians expect but it is important to let everybody know that indeed we are advancing, we are making progress and we will continue to make progress’’ he said.

Ebola arrives in Senegal

According to the team, that person disappeared three weeks ago and may have come to Senegal. 
 The student was then tracked to the hospital in Dakar that same day and was immediately quarantined. A test has confirmed that he has Ebola, and the World Health Organization has been alerted. 
 It is not clear how or when the young man came to Senegal, which closed its border with Guinea last week. Seck said his condition is "satisfactory." 
 The Ebola outbreak ravaging West Africa began last year in Guinea. Since then, the disease has spread to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria. More than 3,000 people have contracted the disease, which is spread by bodily fluids and for which there is no licensed treatment or vaccine. A separate Ebola outbreak was reported this week in Congo, where 13 people have died from the disease.

Anyway the question has started to manifest as the Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has said that carelessness and insensitivity on the part Governor Amaechi and the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Samson Parker, were responsible for the spread of the deadly Ebola Virus in the State.

“At the meeting, modalities for containment of the spread of the virus were considered and agreed upon, and all the governors in attendance resolved and had immediately taken proactive steps in impeding the spread. “This development, the PDP believes, elucidates the fact that the Governor had always look for an avenue to milk dry the State, as what he and his Executive members will now do is to present an expansive budget purportedly for dealing with the current avoidable situation in the State, thereby enriching themselves. “The Party also observes that rather than key into the policies and programmes of the Federal Government in containing the spread of Ebola to Rivers State, Governor Amaechi prefers to embark on ward to ward APC campaigns in the State, against the advice by the Rivers State Police Command. “By the latest development in the State, PDP is convinced that more Ebola cases are in Rivers State, following out right negligence of the governor, who prefers to travel to other parts of the States and beyond than stay back and first tackle Ebola and other emergency developments. “The PDP also expresses strong disapproval of claims made by the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Sampson Parker, that all adequate measures have been taken to contain the spread of Ebola in Rivers State, believing that if that was the true reflection of government’s action, the heart breaking death of Dr. Elemo would have been avoided. “The PDP is not in doubt that all actions taken by the Rivers State Government so far, are measures that are not in the interest of the people, but aimed at looting the State resources. The Ebola virus outbreak is also affecting Africa’s richest man, Alhaji Aliko Dangote. He has pulled out some of his employees from his cement plant in Liberia where the virus has killed about 694 people.

This was revealed by a Lagos-based financial advisory and research firm, Financial Derivatives Company Limited (FDC), in its latest bi-monthly economic report. 
 The Chief Executive Officer, Dangote Cement Plc, Devakumar Edwin, had explained that some of the company’s members of staff had left Liberia as a result of the spread of the dreaded virus. 
 Edwin also explained that the company is reviewing plans in Liberia for an import terminal and considering whether a larger grinding facility in the country would be a better investment, Edwin had explained. 
 According to Dangote, the effect of Ebola “will have a great impact”. 
 In Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea, attempts to quarantine infected populations and contain the virus have paralysed some companies and led to job losses.

The reinstatement is a pointer to the final resolution of the lingering crisis between the government and NMA since the doctors declared an indefinite strike on July 1st, 2014. 
 Special Assistant to the Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, Dan Nwomeh confirmed the reinstatement in Abuja. 
 Prof. Chukwu had on Thursday acknowledged receipt of a letter from the NMA informing government that the strike has been called off. 
 He had said: "The NMA has communicated to me. I saw their letter by 7pm yesterday. So, I confirm that as at 7pm yesterday, I received a formal communication from the NMA President. So, now we are looking into it and very soon, government will make a pronouncement."

 The Bayelsa Police Command has confirmed the death of the 87-year-old  Chief Eseni Adigie. His body was recovered from a shallow grave Kula community, a border town between Rivers and Bayelsa states. 
 Eseni was abducted over a month ago by kidnappers who demanded  ransom before his release. 
 
His family had paid the sum of N5million to secure his release, not knowing that he had been killed.

Ohakim had in an attempt to secure a second term in 2011,  lost to Owelle Rochas Okorocha of the All Progressives Congress (APC). 
 He said his intention to vie for the seat was geared towards completing projects he started in the state which he said have been abandoned by the incumbent governor. 
 Speaking to journalists at the party’s secretariat, he said: “There is no need hiding my joy; this is the month of August, the month of my birth; another good news I have for you is that after completing my consultation, I have offered myself to complete my tenure as the governor of Imo State. 
 “Some people have said in publications that Ohakim forgot something in Government House; has Ohakim no shame? Yes, I have no shame and I am seeking the mandate to go back to the Government House to defend the mandate given to me before with my last blood. 
 “The man serving now has one term but I have more tenure to complete; the next fight would be to fight governor to governor, project to project and mandate to mandate,” Ohakim stated. 
 According to Leadership newspaper, Ohakim alleged that he left N28.6billion for the present administration in a hidden account, which he opined had been spent on frivolities by Okorocha’s government.

“The new national ID card is ATM card, international passport, etc….”

The new national identity card produced by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is not just an ID card. It is also an ATM card and can be used for several other purposes according to NIMC’s Director of Technical Services, Mr Emmanuel Ogungbe.

 Ogungbe said that the new card was error-proof and would enhance the security of the country. 
 According to him, if there is a crime and the police are able to lift finger prints from the crime scene and send to NIMC, the commission will be able to give the full details of the criminals.

Jonathan bans printing of government documents abroad, unveils new national ID Card

The Federal Government of Nigeria has placed a ban on the printing of government documents outside the country. Only documents the Nigeria Security Minting and Printing Company (NSMPC) confirm it cannot handle would be done abroad.

 The announcement was made in Abuja on Thursday, August 29, 2014, by President Goodluck Jonathan during the unveiling of the new National Electronic Identity Card (e-ID card) produced by the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). 
 He also said that voters’ cards for subsequent elections in the country would be printed locally. His words: “The key thing is to strengthen our institutions and that is why I am happy with NIMC. NIMC almost went the way of Nigeria Airways, Nigeria Shipping Line and Ajaokuta; everything just died. Now NIMC is coming back. 
 “In fact, when I appointed the new Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, I told him that the Nigeria Security and Minting Company must be reformed. The board must look into management and get choice global players who are into this business to partner with them.

 “There is no way we are doing local government election, electing House of Assembly members, electing governors in Oyo, Ekiti, Adamawa and all what we will produce will be done outside this country. Why? 
 “So, Mint must be restructured; and both INEC and other bodies too. For the Federal Executive Council, we cannot give approval for any printing whether passport or anything except Mint say they cannot produce that. As far as Mint can produce it, we must produce everything in this country. “But then those who will use these services must have their credibility to protect, that means Mint must be in a position to tell INEC Chairman that ‘whatever I give you, the security devices are okay and you will get the result you want’. 
 He commended former President, Olusegun Obasanjo for signing into law the NIMC Act, from which evolved the e-ID card, describing it as a vital tool that will help the government appropriately plan welfare schemes and subsidise numerous social services for Nigerians. He also said:“We must at the onset keep in mind that the journey to capture the populace, by issuing over 100 million cards has just begun. 
 “You should therefore ensure that the issuance process is prompt and swift enough to enable many more Nigerians obtain their own e-ID Cards, as soon as possible.

Day old baby made crown prince of Igbodo kingdom in Delta State

The Obi of Igbodo, who is in his 30s, had a running battle with his subjects over whether to abide by the age-long tradition and custom of the people and marry a native or insist on marrying his Abakaliki-born heartthrob. 
 The Abakaliki-born wife was however forcibly ejected from the after the people maintained that marrying a non indigene was a desecration of their land. 
 The Obi who is a law graduate, upon mounting the throne, had subtly given the signs that he was going to make changes to certain laws and customs.

A press release issued yesterday by the Director, Catholic Social Communications, Maiduguri Diocese, Rev. Fr. Gideon Obasogie, stated that: “The whole town and the parish rectory have been occupied by the terrorists; so many structures and items have been vandalised. Dozens killed and a lot of church structures have been burnt down.” 
 
“Christians in the town are really in a terribly situation; a moment of great persecution. 
 
“Christian men are caught and beheaded; the women are forced to become Muslims and are taken as wives to the terrorists. The houses of Christians that have fled are now occupied by the insurgents. 
 
“Their cars are used by the terrorists. Some Muslims around identify Christian homes to be occupied and the Christians in hiding were also identified and killed. Strict Sharia Law has been promulgated, as observed by a woman who luckily escaped the death zone.” 
 
Obasogie added that all the churches on the major road linking Borno and Adamawa states have been closed down because of the activities of the terrorists. 
 
Madagali town is the headquarters of the Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa State. It shares border with Borno State and is the closest town to Gwoza, a town aleady occupied by Boko Haram and declared an Islamic caliphate by the sect.

 The prosecutor, Ocheche Samuel, told the court in Kuje area council, Abuja, that the case was reported at the police station on August 19, by one Doh Ibrahim, the convict’s neighbour who caught him “banging” the goat in a bathroom at Sauka Extension area in Kuje where he resided. 
 According to him, the accused, who happened to be a tailor, tried running away when he was found in the ugly act but was apprehended and handed over to the police. 
 Samuel said that the offence contravened Section 284 of the Criminal Code. 
 Abdul was sentenced to one year imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of unnatural and indecent offences. 
 The presiding judge, Mr. Adamu Wakili, however, gave him an option of fine of N15, 000, but ordered that the accused be remanded in Kuje prison for a year if he failed to met the fine condition. Can someone explain how this horny tailor found the she-goat sexy, seductive and irresistible.

After a weeklong ceremony that saw glowing tributes being paid, the final burial rites for Professor Dora Akunyili, former director-General of the National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC and Minister for Information ended today with her interment in Agulu, Anambra State.

On Tuesday, President Goodluck Jonathan led other dignitaries to pay their last respects during a requiem mass held in honour of the departed amazon at the Pro-Cathedral Catholic Church, Abuja. 
 
After the service, Professor Akunyili’s remains were moved to Enugu for further obsequies; including a funeral mass at the KSJ Temple, Enugu. 
 The programme in Enugu was rounded off with a mass in her honour at the Holy Ghost Cathedral, Enugu before the departure of the body to Anambra, her home state. 
 The body was laid in state both at her father’s compound in Nanka and her husband’s home in Agulu, Anambra State. 
 PM News reports that Agulu has been tumultuous and carnival-like since the body arrived the village. The compound was so crowded that many visitors could not gain entrance into the premises. 
 At the Madonna Catholic Church, Agulu where the final funeral mass held, the presiding priest in a homily described the deceased as priceless, patriotic and exemplary. 
 “I can tell you that the death of Dora is marked by the community and Nigeria in general. She wrote her name in gold. And so, in death, she brought Nigerians together in grief,” the clergyman said. 
 Akunyi, 59 died in an Indian hospital on 7 June, this year after a battle with cancer. She was a university teacher, worked with the Petroleum Trust Fund and was appointed head of NAFDAC where she pioneered the restoration of sanity to Nigerian’s drug and consumable sector.

Onyebuchi was accused of gross misconduct - running a poultry in his official residence and refusing to represent the governor at official functions. He has however resolved to challenge his impeachment in court. 
 The new deputy governor, a clergy of the Christ Ascension Church, was screened and cleared by the house of assembly following his nomination by Governor Sullivan Chime. 
 After the house had returned from a short break during Thursday’s plenary session, the speaker, Hon. Eugene Odoh, read a letter forwarded to the lawmakers by the governor, urging them to expeditiously consider, and approve Nwoye’s nomination. 
 Nwoye was once commissioner of environment and solid minerals in the state and had also served as the elected deputy chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area of the state.
