Reports say that after discovering his lifeless body on the floor of their Edinburgh home in Ferry Gait Crescent, she wrapped it in a duvet cover, put it in the suitcase and drove about 25 miles to Kirkcaldy, Fife, to hide it in woodland.
Adekoya had 'lost her temper' when her son was repeatedly sick following a trip to a Nando's restaurant at the city's Fountain Park.
She smacked him and struck him on the body and head with a clenched fist. When Mikaeel was sick for a third time, she dragged him to the shower by his arms and 'beat him heavily' on his back as he lay over the bath edge.
Over the next few days Mikaeel's condition worsened but she did not take him to the doctor because she would be questioned when the bruises on him were to be discovered.
The next day, she discovered the boy’s lifeless body on the floor of their home in Edinburgh.
Discovering that he was dead, she put his body in a suitcase and drove with it miles away from home where she later hid the case in woodland behind her sister's house in Dunvegan Avenue, Kirkcaldy and covered it with branches.
She then went to the police and reported Mikaeel missing, prompting police to commence a two day vigorous search that involved hundreds of local people and nation-wide coverage.
But mobile telephone masts recorded her journey across the Forth Road Bridge, conflicting her statements to police about her whereabouts.
She eventually broke down and took officers to where she hid the dead body.
The final cause of Mikaeel's death was found to be 'blunt force abdominal trauma' and the court heard he had more than 40 separate injuries to his body.
She was initially charged with murder but last month pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of culpable homicide. She is now serving her term in Cornton Vale jail.
MailOnline Uk reports that while passing judgement, Lord Glennie said: “Striking a child even once is bad enough. Striking him heavily and repeatedly with hand and fist when he was being sick again and again simply beggars belief.

Defence counsel, Brian McConnachie pleaded for leniency, saying: “There is no sentence your lordship can impose in this case which will be deemed sufficient by what appears to be an ill-informed mob who are no doubt at this moment waiting to express their outrage and indignation.
“She understands that there is an almost insurmountable difficulty in anyone understanding the circumstances that have come to pass which would cause you to kill your own child.'

Investigations however revealed that Adekoya suffered from depression for some time, particularly in the last few months before Mikaeel's death, as the single mother found herself 'overwhelmed' by her circumstances.
