Just few hours after his birth, a baby boy was immediately made crown prince of Igbodo Kingdom of Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State. Vanguard reports that the baby named Ugochukwu, was crowned within the environment of St. Luke’s Hospital, Asaba, where he was born.

The action it was gathered was taken in order to forestall any succession issue that may arise in future. Chief Eugene Iyeke of the ruling house of Igbodo led the delegation which included members of the Obi-in-council and notable indigenes.

Last year, the Obi of Igbodo, Obi Ikechukwu Osedume I, was compelled by native law and custom to formally marry an indigene of the community. That wife, Onyinyechukwu whom he married last October, was the one who now gave birth to the crown prince.

The Obi of Igbodo, who is in his 30s, had a running battle with his subjects over whether to abide by the age-long tradition and custom of the people and marry a native or insist on marrying his Abakaliki-born heartthrob.

The Abakaliki-born wife was however forcibly ejected from the after the people maintained that marrying a non indigene was a desecration of their land.

The Obi who is a law graduate, upon mounting the throne, had subtly given the signs that he was going to make changes to certain laws and customs.
