The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that its presidential candidate for the 2015 general election would be picked in October as primary elections have been slated to hold that month.

Some members of the party believed to be eyeing the presidency are former military Head of State, Muhammadu Buhari, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and governor of Kano State, Rabi’u Kwankwaso. Speaker of the House of Representatives., Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, is also believed to be planning to defect from PDP to APC in order to join the battle for Nigeria’s number one seat. His move has however remained a matter of speculation among keen watchers of politics in the country.

According to APC spokesperson, Lai Mohammed, who spoke after the meeting that the party’s NEC, said that the party had approved the use of the modified direct primaries for picking the party’s presidential candidate in subsequent elections. That means the party would not be using the delegate system.

About 300,000 of the party members would be involved in the primary election.

The Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) which dominates the APC has in the past never been known to conduct elections to pick contestants at any level including for governorship and presidency.

Mohammed also said that that the party demanded the temporary lifting of the curfew currently in place in Adamawa State in order to encourage mass participation in the October 11 governorship election in the state.
