A doctor in Liberia who was infected with the Ebola virus in the line of duty has died even after receiving the ZMapp experimental drug.
His death was confirmed Monday by the country’s information minister, Lewis Brown.
The doctor was one of three Liberian health workers who have received the untested ZMapp drug that had earlier been given to and believed to have provisionally cured two American health workers who were also infected.
According to AP, only five people in the world have received the experimental drug.
The two Americans, Kent Brantly and Nancy Writebol survived and were discharged from an Atlanta hospital. But Spanish priest, Miguel Pajares, who received it died. There is no update yet on the two other Liberians who took doses of the drug.
Health experts caution that the drug had never been tested in humans before and it remains unclear whether and how it really works.
