Former Minister of Education and front runner of the BringBackOurGirls campaign, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili was on the morning of Monday, July 21, 2014, arrested by security agents at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on her way to London for a scheduled engagement.
She had announced tweeted about the arrest: “On my way to London this morning for my @BBCHARDtalk appearance billed for TOMORROW and the SSS has DETAINED me by WITHHOLDING my PASSPORT”

The officials however released her documents as she tweeted: “SSS has RELEASED IT. Just barely made the BA flight. Last to board @ 7.55 for an 8.00am flight that is now taxiing. IS THIS A DEMOCRACY?”
She said she refused to let the SSS trample on her rights. “No ONE can SEIZE my DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS. I REFUSED to let the SSS GET AWAY with TRAMPLING on my CONSTITUTIONAL RIGTH.” she tweeted.

The former minister’s #BringBackOurGirls campaign group has been consistently pressurising the federal government to act more decisively in rescuing the over 250 schoolgirls abducted thre months ago from a Government Girls Secondary Schol in Chibok, Borno State, by Boko Haram.
