Ebonyi House of Assembly Speaker impeached

The Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Chukwuma Nwazunku has been impeached. He was impeached today, Monday, July 21, by 18 out of the 24 members of the House, amid tight security.

Nwanzunku’s impeachment followed a motion moved by Hon Chris Usulor, representing Ezza South constituency and seconded by the Minority Leader, Hon. Enyi C. Enyi (Ezza North West).

Mrs Helen Nwobashi representing Abakaliki South,is now the new Speaker.

The motion for her election as Speaker was moved by Hon. Eni Uduma Chima (Afikpo South West) and seconded by Hon. Frank Onwe (Ohaukwu North).

Nwazunku’s impeached is believed to be related to a rumour of plans to impeach the State Governor, Martin Elechi. The former speaker had last week dispelled rumoured impeachment of the governor and passed , a vote of confidence on him and his deputy, Engr Dave Umahi.
