There are reports that Boko Haram members have taken over military camps
in Goniri, Buni Yadi and Buni Gari, all in Gujba Local Government area
of Yobe State.A ThisDay report says that the recent bombing of the Katarko Bridge by the insurgents has cut-off both vehicular and human movement between Buni Yadi, and Damaturu, the Yobe state capital.
One of the residents of the area, speaking anonymously after escaping to Damaturu was quoted as saying: “They (Boko Haram) now move freely in the area brandishing their guns and weapons.
“They now occupy locations that were previously manned by military in the areas. I am just coming from Buni Yadi. I came with my bicycle all the way to this place. I did not use any bush path. I followed the main road.
“We are facing a very terrible situation. There is no single security in our area. The same in Buni Gari and Goniri. In fact the boys (Boko Haram) have taken over the military camps in the areas.”
Another resident said, "I met them dressed in military uniforms roaming freely with sophisticated guns without fear or resistance".
Another, a farmer, said the terrorists have set up several camps in the bush thereby stopping farming activities in those areas.
"They usually warned strictly that they have no business with us if we didn't expose them, otherwise they will kill us and stop farming activity in the area" he said.
