A 22 year old undergraduate, Emmanuel James, has been remanded in prison for stealing his father’s 500,000 watt stabilizer.

According to PUNCH, the 300 level student of the University of Ilorin was arraigned in a Minna Magistrate’s Court on Friday, August 8, 2014, on a charge of theft contrary to section 288 of the Penal Code.

The Police Prosecutor, Ahmed Ali, told the court that James made away with the stabilizer from their home in Bosso Area of Minna while his faher was on his sick bed.

The stabilizer was valued at N15, 000 but James sold it for N7, 000.

James pleaded for leniency when the charge was read to him.

 He said:“I stole the stabilizer to buy new clothes to celebrate Sallah with my friends”

The Police Prosecutor prayed the court to try him summarily in line with section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code but, in her ruling, Magistrate Hafsat Abdullahi, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison and adjourned the case to August 8, 2014 to enable her meet with the accused’s mother.
