The Spanish Catholic missionary priest who contracted the Ebola virus while working in Liberia has died in a Madrid hospital according to a spokesperson in the Spanish capital city.


The 75 year old priest, Miguel Pajares, was airlifted back to Spain from Liberia on August 7 and was being treated in the Carlos III hospital, where he had been in quarantine and placed on the experimental ZMapp Ebola drug.

The Two American aid workers infected by the disease who were also given the drugs are however said to be showing signs of improvement.

A nun, Juliana Bohi, was repatriated with Pajares but she tested negative to the virus.
Pajares was part of a Catholic order at St Joseph’s hospital in the Liberian capital, Monrovia.
