Hewlett Packard (HP) Nigeria, producer of HP computers and other telecom products have warned consumers to be wary of fake IT equipments in the market.
The warning came from Jean-Paul Pinto, District Manager, English Africa, printing and Personal System of HP during the company’s 2014 Anti-Counterfeit Conference holding in Abuja.
Advising Nigerians to always go for quality products since they were in the long run cheaper than inferior and counterfeit ones, Pinto said that one out of every 10 IT products sold globally were inferior.
His words: “Nigeria is one of the global largest mobile growths and it becomes necessary for us to raise this call because one in 10 IT products sold globally may be counterfeit.
He said inferior products have caused immense reduction in global economic growth and have negative effect on businesses worldwide. “In each year, businesses worldwide lose excessively due to counterfeiting and piracy, especially in the IT industry”.
The district manager told the audience that consumers were the ones who suffer after buying inferior products and regretted that the presence of inferior and counterfeit products were killing the industry worldwide.
According to him, the company was strengthening its tentacles to tackle the increase in piracy of telecommunication and other products in the country.
