reports that “an alternate narrative has seeped into the mainland through
cellphone <b>instant messaging services</b>. Users have posted video clips and photos
from Hong Kong streets, as well as articles on the unrest sent as photo images
— not text — so they can <b>circumvent censorship</b> that involves searching text
messages for key phrases”.</div>

P2P chat app that allows users to exchange messages even when there is no

<b>The government is blocking mainland Internet users from
visiting some online services and websites.</b> Instagram, which has been used to
publicise pictures of the teeming protesters in the streets, has been blocked.</div>

The latest move, according to the South China Morning Post, is
that <b>protestors have been targeted with mobile spam</b> urging them to download an
Android app supposedly designed by theCode 4HK community, <span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> </span>coordinators of Occupy Central.<br />

The Code4HK leaders denied designing the app and later discovered that <b>the app
is actually a piece of rather generic spyware, which accesses users’ contacts,
browsing history, approximate location, text messages and phone call history.</b>
It also records audio.<br />
<br />
Help Net Security online reports that in order to beat the government’s effort
aimed at shutting down the city's cellular networks, <b>the protesters have begun
using FireChat, a P2P chat app</b> that allows users to exchange messages even when
there is no mobile phone coverage or Internet access.<br />

According to the site, <b>“The app creates ad-hoc mobile networks, and the messages
are sent over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi</b>. These connections are encrypted, and the
messages are not going through a central server that can be accessed by
authorities”.</div>

The men, according to the State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Ismaila Numan, who confirmed the incident to NAN, were caught allegedly trying to snatch an ‘Okada’ in Akwanga Local Government Area of the state.<br />
<br />He said that on receiving a distress call, police officers were moved to the area “but before our men got to the scene of the incident, the two suspects were already set ablaze by the angry mob while the third suspect ran away”.<br />
<br />The police spokesman explained that while one of the men died before police got to him, the second died while he was being taken to the hospital.<br />
<br />He decried the mob action, warning members of the public from taking laws into their hands and stressing that such suspects when caught should be handed over to the police. He however added that the command had commenced investigation in the matter.<br /><br />

 This was indicated by the State Governor, <b>Babatunde Fashola</b> who also tasked Nigerian scientists to get involved in ground breaking research that would help better the lot of the African continent.<br />
<br />Prof Iwu, former Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission <b>(INEC)</b> , is <b>Professor of Pharmacognosy, who set up the Bioresources Development and Conservation Programme</b>, started a research 10 years ago after traditional medicine practitioners led researchers were led to the Bitter Kola plant. The traditional healers said they have used the plant for the treatment of infectious diseases for centuries.<br />
<br />Fashola who spoke at the presentation of research grants, drawn in cheques to seven tertiary institutions, both Federal and States, at the Government House, Alausa, Ikeja, had constituted a 10-man Lagos State Research and Development Council which was inaugurated on November 21, 2012.<br />

<br />His words: “I was curious about what Professor Maurice Iwu was doing with elections if he was already researching on how Bitter Kola can cure some diseases.<br />
<br />“He should come back and do his work because really this is his core competence and if he is listening to me, I am challenging him that he will be able to reopen the frontiers of that research and present it, this organization will fund it.”<br />
<br />A total research grant of N142, 239, 000 was approved for the state. N71, 119, 500 which is 50 percent of the total sum was presented to seven beneficiaries.<br />
<br />The grants were to be expended in10 sectors; three in<b> agriculture</b>,<b> </b>three in <b>education</b>, six in<b> environmental science </b>one in<b> finance, </b>eight in<b> health, </b>one<b> </b>in<b> water</b>, one <b>information communication</b> <b>technology</b>, one in <b>manufacturing</b>, three in <b>power and energy</b> and three in<b> media creative art.</b><br />
<br />Among the institutions who received the 31 research projects grants were; University of Lagos, UNILAG, Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo, Caleb University, Pan African University and Yaba College of Technology.<br />

The driver of the vehicle, with <b>six people</b> in it, reportedly lost control and ran into the perimeter fence of the museum and got hooked. Luckily the <b>occupants of the car escaped death.</b><br />
<br />
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle’s occupants ‎were helped down and rushed to the Central Hospital for medical attention.<br />
<br />
The vehicle had entered the Ring Road from the Airport Road entrance. The eyewitnesses attributed the cause of the accident to <b>excessive speed.</b><br />

The paintings include works by artists like <b>Michaelangelo, Pablo Picasso, Francisco de Goya, Miro and Gauguin. Among the paintings were "Madonna and Child", "Femme Couchee VI" and a Francisco de Goya portrait of the Marquesa de Santa Cruz". </b><br />
<br />
Others are Pierre Bonnard’s “La Baignade Au Grand Temps”, Bernard Buffet’s “Vase of Red Chrysanthemums”, Joan Miro’s “L’Aube”, and one of Camille Pissarro’s “Jardin de Kew” series.<br />
<br />
The court ordered searches of all known offices and residences of the former first lady and Congresswoman, Imelda Marcos, in Manila and Ilocos Norte in a bid to recover the artworks.<br />
<br />
Government spokesman, Nick Suarez told AFP that the paintings will be retrieved starting today. He added that he did not have estimates of the current value of the artworks.<br />

Tanker fire kills pregnant woman, three others in Onitsha

<b>A pregnant woman</b> was among four people feared dead in a fire disaster caused by <b>petrol tanker </b>which somersaulted and<b> exploded</b> on the <b>New Auto Spare Parts Market Flyover, Nkpor, near Onitsha</b>, Anambra State. About 20 people also sustained various degrees of injuries.<br />

<br />The driver of the ill-fated tanker could not be located among the huge crowd that thronged the accident scene. The situation created a traffic gridlock from Nkpor to Onitsha and Nkpor to Ogidi even as men of the Federal Road Safety Commission <b>(FRSC)</b> Anambra State Traffic Agency (<b>ASTA</b>) <b>Police</b> and Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (<b>NSCDC</b>) were all mobilized to the scene.<br />

Another Church building collapses, this time in Edo State again

Is it a season of church building collapse? First, in this month alone, it was a building of Synagogue Church of All Nations in Lagos which killed up to 115 people, and then days later, it was Christ Chosen Church of God in Edo State which killed three. <br />
<br />Just yesterday, September 28, another church in the state, Liberty Power Bible Church a.k.a Power Palace, collapsed after a heavy rainstorm. No live was however lost in the disaster which occurred one hour after close of service.<br />

<br />The roof and pillars of the building, which appeared to be under construction, fell on another building.<br />
<br />The owner of the damaged building, Ajor Sylvanus, was quoted to have said that said the church collapsed at about 1:45pm.<br />
<br />He said his brother narrowly escaped being hit by the collapsing church pillars.<br />
<br />He told reporters that he had repeatedly warned the pastor of the church over the kind of materials being used for the construction.<br />
<br />His words: “The storm that followed the rain was much but I have been complaining about the building structure. The pastor built the church like a fence, no pillar. The block is just ordinary sand. I have been telling him that no pillar would cause the building to collapse.<br />
<br />“The building fell on my building and damaged many things. I thanked God that nobody died. When the pastor came, he was concerned about the musical instrument in his church and thanked God that his church members were not around when the building fell. I had to call the police. The building has already cracked and I have been warning the pastor that the building will collapse.”<br />

Dauda earned himself the award as a result of his dexterity at directing traffic which sometimes includes some entertaining acrobatic moves to the delight and admiration of motorists and pedestrians.<br />

Onu Isaac Michael is the Head Steward in the Presidential villa and has served 9 Heads of Governments from the time of Alhaji Shehu Shagari. <br />
<br />
Eme Izuwa is a 66-year-old cab driver at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. He once returned a bag containing N18million naira to an expatriate passenger who forgot his travel bag in his cab. He had taken pain to trace the passenger to return the bag which also contained vital documents.<br />

Doctors believe he may be suffering from Prader–Willi syndrome, a rare genetic condition characterised by a constant hunger and desire to eat. Children with the condition continue to feel hungry even after eating three to six times more than others of their age.<br />

Symptoms of the syndrome may include a permanent feeling of hunger, which can lead to dangerous weight gain, reduced muscle tone and learning difficulties. Behavioral problems may also occur. There is no known cure for it yet, except treatments aimed at managing the symptoms.<br />

Misael also suffers from an underactive thyroid - which can cause weight gain - and his parents say prescribed medication was not working.<br />
<br />
His father told MailOnline: “Even taking him to the doctor or leaving the house with him is difficult. And when we walk down the street, people stop, want to take pictures with him, people say that they never saw [a boy] this size, people want to know how old he is, how much he weighs...”<br />
<br />
 His behavioural problems, which include temper tantrums and stubbornness, pose 
another difficulty for his parents who are always forced to hire a 
private taxi during outings.<br />

Cocaine: Five year-old boy tests positive

A five-year-old US boy must have been snorting cocaine? Well… the boy tested positive for cocaine after his parents, Marco and Sandy Cuevas, were arrested on a drug charge. They were arrested on Friday after police stopped their vehicle in Moorpark, southern California.<br />

<br />Their 5-year-old son was found in the back seat of the car with about 250grams of cocaine.<br />
<br />Ventura County Sheriff’s office said while Marco Cuevas also had several ounces of cocaine on him, his wife was in possession of more than $10,000 suspected to be drug proceeds.<br />
<br />Hundreds of prescription-drug pills, several pounds of marijuana and $75,000 in cash were later found at the couple's home. About 3,000 rounds of ammunition and 16 guns were also discovered.<br />
<br />The couple is now accused of conspiracy to sell cocaine, possession of cocaine for sale, and child endangerment.<br />
<br />Marco Cuevas is suspected of distributing an influx of cocaine over the summer among teenagers and young adults in the area. <br />
<br />SkyNews reports that he is currently in custody in lieu of $1m bail, though his wife was able to obtain bail and is awaiting a court date. <br /><br />

<br />Protesters - a mix of students and supporters of the Occupy Central pro-democracy movement – are protesting the government’s plans to vet candidates for Hong Kong’s 2017 leadership elections. They want a free choice of candidates when they cast their ballots for the chief executive - something Beijing says is out of the question. <br />
<br />The protesters have refused to leave even after appeals from the government which said on Monday that riot police were being withdrawn. Police had used tear gas, pepper spray and batons on the protesters on Sunday. The crackdown even attracted more people to the streets. Some banks and schools remain closed and while transport system remain in chaos.<br />
<br />Some of the protesters camped out around the government complex overnight on Sunday, sleeping on the ground and some erecting barricades.<br />

<br />About 3,000 people have also blocked a major road across the bay in Mongkok, on the Kowloon peninsula, while a crowd of about 1,000 faced police in the busy shopping district of Causeway Bay, east of central Hong Kong.<br />
