President Goodluck Jonathan, on Monday honoured the designer of the national flag, Mr. Taiwo Akinkunmi. The honour came as the President delivered his speech during the conferment of National Awards on 313 deserving Nigerians.
Akinkunmi, 78, will now receive salary for life as a Special Assistant to the President.
Akinkunmi had in the past, been given a National Award.
Three of the 313 recipients of the award were also honoured in extra measure as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory was instructed to give a flat each to Corporal Solomon Dauda, Mr Onu Isaac Michael and Mr Eme Izuwa.
Dauda earned himself the award as a result of his dexterity at directing traffic which sometimes includes some entertaining acrobatic moves to the delight and admiration of motorists and pedestrians.
Onu Isaac Michael is the Head Steward in the Presidential villa and has served 9 Heads of Governments from the time of Alhaji Shehu Shagari.
Eme Izuwa is a 66-year-old cab driver at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. He once returned a bag containing N18million naira to an expatriate passenger who forgot his travel bag in his cab. He had taken pain to trace the passenger to return the bag which also contained vital documents.
