Policeman shoots wife to death, kills self

Police in Ogun State are investigating an incident in which a 60 year old retired Assistant Superintendent of Police, killed himself shortly after shoot his 40 year old wife to death.

The old cop, Sunday Isokpeyi, reportedly shot his wife, Gladys, to death on Saturday, at their Ota area home in Ogun state after accusing her of being drunk. He shot himself shortly after.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, confirming the incident said: “We are still investigating the immediate and remote causes of the tragic incident. We will find out whether the man was depressed or was under any influence, because a normal human being will not open fire on his wife and then kill himself.

“We will investigate how he got the double-barrelled gun he used to commit the dastardly act.”

According to the police spokesman, Isokpehi retired in March from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad unit, Lagos Police Command, and was living in Eledi area in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government.
