Car makers, Ford has ordered the recall of about 850,000 cars in North America over a “potential issue” with airbags. The vehicles affected include some 2013-14 C-MAX, Fusion, Escape and Lincoln MKZ models.

According to the company, a glitch could cause a short circuit that may hinder airbags from deploying properly in the event of a crash.

Ford showed unawarenes of any injuries that might have been caused by the problem, but added that dealers would fix it for free.

About 745,000 of the recalled vehicles are in the US, 82,000 are in Canada and 20,000 in Mexico.

Ford’s recall comes on the heels of a major outrage at General Motors over an ignition-switch problem that can shut down the air bag system while a car is in motion. GM has recalled 2.6 million older-model cars and acknowledged at least 21 fatalities in accidents related to the problem.
