Following the mayhem that greeted Ado-Ekiti the Ekiti State capital on Friday morning, in which thugs reportedly took to the streets looting and vandalizing, the state governor, Kayode Fayemi, has declared a 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. curfew in the state.

According to reports, the campaign office of Governor Fayemi and the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in the state capital has been burnt down by the rampaging thugs.

The violence had erupted after the former chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the state, Mr. Omolafe Aderiye, was shot dead on Thursday night by unknown gunmen at Ijigbo area in Ado Ekiti.

Aderiye was said to be on his way home when the assailants, numbering about four accosted and shot him at close range.

Aderiye, a strong supporter of governor-elect, Ayodele Fayose, was said to be part of the thugs who attacked a high court judge in the state the same morning.

The thugs had attacked Justice John Adeyeye, beating him up and ripping his clothes for being allegedly rude to Fayose.

It is supposed that it was in a bid to avenge Aderiye’s death that thugs believed to be loyalists of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and NURTW, charged around Ado-Ekiti unleashing terror on residents and destroying property on Friday morning.
