Nigeria’s Defence Headquarters have refuted reports claiming that Cameroonian forces were involved in any of the raids within the border towns of Borno state, one in which the Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau is believed to have been killed.

Reports last night quoted Military sources in Cameroon as saying that they killed Shekau in an aerial bombardment in his hideout inside Nigeria, at the Gamboru Ngala border town, contrary to claims by the Nigerian Army that said Shekau was killed on September 17, in Konduga town, which is few kilometres away from Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

To clear the air, Defence Headquarters in a tweet this afternoon said: “There was no raid whatsoever in any part of Nigeria’s territory in pursuit of terrorists as claimed in some reports allegedly quoting Cameroon military authorities.

“All operations ongoing in the environs of Konduga and all associated border location within the country are completely being undertaken by Nigerian troops”.

Another set of 10 terrorists were also said to have surrendered to Nigerian troops at Kawuri. According to the Army, they are “in custody for necessary security debriefing”.

Who is playing a fast one on Nigeria. The pictures reportedly released by Cameroon’s forces are images taken from those released from the September 17, Konduga offensive by the Nigerian army.
