Commercial banks in Ijebu-Ode and Ijebu-Igbo in Ogun State were yesterday reportedly shut down after word filtered in that a gang of armed robbers had planned to invade both towns.

The fears of banks in Ijebu-Igbo worsened when they learnt that the only Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) stationed in the town had broken down while the one in Ijebu-Ode had been allegedly deployed elsewhere.

Residents of the town remained apprehensive as they feared that the robbers may actually attack. It was believed that the robbers were going to cash in on the faulty APC to launch their attacks on banks in the area.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, ASP Muyiwa Adejobi denied that banks in Ijebu-Ode shut down for fear of robbery attack but admitted that some of the banks in Ijebu-Igbo refused to open because of the broken-down APC.

He however assured that adequate security remained in place irrespective of the faulty APC.
