A day-old baby buried alive by his mother has been rescued by Police in Akwa Ibom State. According to Police, the baby’s mother, Patience, buried the baby in a shallow grave in Afaha Abia Village of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of the state.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Gabriel Achong, who made the disclosure on Thursday in Uyo said Patience was arrested for attempted infanticide, adding that she was being investigated.
He said: “Patience on September 14, 2014 did bury her one-day-old baby boy in a shallow grave. The baby was rescued alive”.
According to Achong, the suspect was among the 37 persons arrested by the command for various offences in August and September. He added that the command’s Quick Response Squad (QRS) rescued four children reportedly stolen, within the period.
NAN reports that the Police Commissioner also appealed for public cooperation to enable the police fight crime effectively in the state.
