The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, Lagos State Command has, within a week arrested over 200 people suspected to be irregular immigrants.
Disclosing this on Friday, July 11, 2014, Friday, the Comptroller of Immigration in charge of the command, Julius Ogbu, dispelled the rumour that the arrest was targeted at northerners resident in Lagos, a bid to check any intended terror activity in the state. The operation had been in conjunction with the police and other security agencies.
Mr. Ogbu said that the suspects’ fate would be decided after thorough screening of their travelling papers.
He disclosed that about 110 suspected irregular immigrants had earlier been deported to their various countries.
He said that embassies in the country were aware of the NIS operation.
