Kaduna state government has stated that it would no longer allow the burial of corpses from other countries without the presentation of a certificate stating the cause of death.

According to the state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tot Dogo, the measure was part of government’s efforts at controlling the spread of the dreaded Ebola virus to the state. He however said that the requirement did not apply to deaths recorded in the state.

He said that in order to make the policy work, residents of the state, especially the rural dwellers, would be strictly monitored by government health officials.

The commissioner also noted that apart from the providing protective medical kits for health workers, the state had set up quarantine centres in its 23 local government areas and had put the tertiary and primary health facilities in the state on the alert.

His words: “We in Kaduna State are not taking any chances. We are making necessary arrangements in all the tertiary and primary health centres to put them on the alert in case of any outbreak of Ebola”
