Late Biafran warlord, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu has gotten his name immortalized in a university in as the Anambra State University, Uli, has been renamed Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University.

The Anambra House of Assembly on Thursday passed a bill in that effect to honour the former hero who died November 26, 2011.

Mrs Rita Maduagwu, the Chairman, House Committee on Education, explained that the bill had passed second reading on December 17, 2013.

According to her, the university’s name had been changed before from Anambra State University of Science and Technology and that there were a number of provisions in the extant law that required a review.

Her words:“After due consideration of facts and information, the committee recommended that the  law establishing the university be repealed, while a new law aimed at amending the principal law be passed”.

In the words of Mr Tony Muonagor , a member of the House, the aim of the name change was to immortalise the late Ojukwu and to encourage hard work among the people of the state and Nigeria at large.
