Tears, Horror, Shock in Brazil
Less than 30 minutes into the semi-final game between host, Brazil, and Germany in the ongoing 2014 World Cup, Brazilian tears had flooded the Mineirao stadium, venue of the match which many Brazilians would want to forget in a hurry. By the 29th minute, Germany had netted five goals and confusion, misery and anguish became the lot of every Brazilian in the stadium, player or spectator!
Thomas Muller scored first in the 11th minute, followed by Miroslav Klose in the 23rd minute and then Toni Kroos, a minute later. Two minutes later, Kroos scored his second in the game to make it 4-nil until Sami Khedira added another to make it 5 in the 29th minute. The rest of the half was spent like a training session.
The Samba boys however came out smoking in the second half but in the 69th minute, Andre Schurrle of Germany calmed them down with the 6th goal of the game. Schurrle added another in the 79th minute and the score line stood at 7-0.
But just as the referee, Mark Geiger, was contemplating ending Brazil’s misery on the dot of 90 minutes, Emboaba Oscar scored a consolation goal which even confused the fans the more as they did not know what or how to feel about it. A Commentator even remarked "I've never seen a goal less celebrated in my life"
The game ended 7-1, and went down in the books as the most tragic score line in Brazil’s world cup history.
Klose also made history as he became the tournament’s all-time top scorer with his goal in the game. He increased his goal tally in all his world cup games to 16.
The 36-year-old Lazio of Italy striker had drawn level with Brazil’s Ronaldo de Lima on 15 in Germany’s 2-2 draw with Ghana.
At the post match conference, Scolari said:'If I was to think of my life as a coach, player, PE teacher then this was the worst day of my life. But life goes on ...'
