One of Nigeria’s foremost constitutional and human rights lawyers, Bamidele  Aturu, has been reported dead. A close associate of his, who confirmed the incident, said that Aturu, renowned for his doggedness in fighting for the marginalised or the oppressed died Wednesday evening in a Lagos hospital after a brief illness.

The Late Lawyer was aged 49.

He studied Law at the University of Ife (Now Obafemi Awolowo University)
Aturu was one of the founders of Democratic Alternative

He declined his nomination into the ongoing national conference arguing that the conference was already programmed to achieve nothing
His death has undoubtedly thrown members of the legal profession as well as the human rights community into mourning.

May his soul rest in peace
