Governor Nyako impeached, deputy resigns, speaker to be sworn in
Adamawa state governor, Murtala Nyako, has been
impeached by the State House of Assembly. But his deputy, James Ngilari voluntarily resigned before the move was completed.
It has however been gathered that Nyako has resolved to challenge the impeachment in court having already assembled a team of lawyers
in addition to the ones recruited by his party, All Progressive Congress (APC)
to pursue the case.\
All had been set for the swearing in of the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Umaru Fintiri, as acting governor of the state.
Reacting to the impeachment, a chieftain of the APC, Mallam Nasir El Rufai tagged the move:"Jonathanian impunity endangering the nation", going ahead to predict that Nasarawa, Edo and Rives were next.
"Nasarawa is next. Then Rivers and Edo. And President Jonathan thinks that all will be well while he violates the constitution and the law. We will see how it all ends. We have been there before"
Nyako's fate as governor has for several weeks hung in the balance since he was served the impeachment notice
