Disaster struck in Akure, the Ondo state capital on Saturday when a gas cylinder exploded at a refueling station in the city, injuring several people and razing many houses.

Felix Ogodo, the state police spokesman confirmed the incident to AFP, saying: 
“I am now at the scene of the incident. Nobody died, but several people were injured and many houses were burnt”
The news agency quoted a resident, Olufunke Adegbehingbe, as saying:
 “They were refilling a gas cylinder when it exploded and sparked the inferno that consumed the houses and shops around the place”
She said several people including a woman trapped in a car, were saved from the blaze
According to her, “The car was burnt beyond recognition”
