According to Amodu, Keshi’s failure to qualify Nigeria for AFCON 2015 is an indication of failure and enough reason not to remain as coach.
Keshi’s failure to secure a spot for Nigeria to defend its titles in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations in Equatorial Guinea, has dented his image and attached the label of failure on him.
Speaking to SL10.com, Amodu said:
“As a coach, you are as good as your last game. If as at when they (NFF) asked me to take over from him and I reckoned that it would affect my reputation if I failed, I expect any professional coach to assume the same position now”
“He alone will decide whether he has a reputation or not. If he has a reputation, he should walk out of the job, but if he doesn’t, he should stay.”
“We all know that Keshi has failed. To keep him is a bad precedent because when Siasia failed, we told the whole country that he failed and he should go, and not even Goodluck Jonathan could save him. So if we want to live within those standards, we know what to do and this is my opinion.”Amodu’s advice is no doubt a confirmation of the handicap many NFF board members privately express. They say it is difficult to sack Keshi owing to the fact that President Jonathan was instrumental to his return to the post after he was initially sacked. The only option they have is to see Keshi take a bow and leave.
