In a bid to ensure that illegal immigrants do not participate in the 2015 elections, the Nigerian Immigration Service  (NIS) has stepped up its mop-up operation to get rid of illegal immigrants Illegal immigrants in the country.


According to the Comptroller of the NIS in the Jigawa state, Mr Isa Jere, this operation has led to the arrest and repatriation of 430 illegal immigrants in the state between January and November, this year. 

He added that 90 per cent of these illegal immigrants were from Niger Republic while others were from Cameroun, Chad and Mali.

He also said that the command seized 20 voters’ cards from Nigerien immigrants, 11 out of which were permanent voters’ cards.  

Speaking on Saturday while parading eight illegal immigrants (seven from  Niger Republic and one from Mali), Jere said: 
 “We are committed to repatriating illegal immigrants in our midst because they don’t have right or have any business to participate in our elections”
